Abstract

Fernando Velázquez has known how to play the keys of our emotion behind the spotlights and screens, and he has currently become one of the most important composers on the Spanish music scene. His music is lavished indistinctly in movie theaters, theaters, auditoriums, sports stadiums and other spaces, in which he moves through different genres, styles and collaborations, both with filmmakers as well as with public orchestras, pop artists, playwrights and other agents, avoiding borders and labels, which he considers a heritage of the 20th century. 2022 has been a very productive year for the composer after having released his album “Viento”, premiered scores for new films, plays, stood out in collaborations with orchestras and pop artists, in addition to having received a Latin Grammy and new award nominations. Goya and Feroz for the music from the film “Los renglones torcidos de Dios”. In this interview, Velázquez explains the importance of the humanistic training of future musical artists and vital motivation as the main creative motor to question the public and appeal to their feelings. He defends that the interpretive quality, and the emotion that it produces, are the best allies of artistic education, therefore, of the generation of audiences. He offers his vision about public policies for the arts without forgetting patrimonial issues or the social responsibility of artists and cultural managers in programming and managing public cultural institutions.
