Abstract

En este tema vamos a presentar una definición axiomática del conjunto de los números reales y de sus propiedades, distinguiendo entre axiomas o propiedades algebraicas, de orden y topológicas. Para estas últimas, la introducción del concepto de valor absoluto de un número real nos permitirá establecer un concepto de distancia entre números reales y otras nociones relacionadas (entorno de un punto, puntos de acumulación, adherencia, interior y frontera de un conjunto) que nos permitirán completar la descripción de los números reales como el conjunto que constituye la base fundamental del cálculo y del análisis matemático.
