Abstract

The evolving landscape of education, shaped by social and technological shifts, necessitates a comprehensive examination of the current array of digital tools at our disposal. This study delves into the realm of philosophy-oriented YouTube channels in Spain boasting the highest subscriber counts: namely, Ram Talks, Adictos a la Filosofia, Unboxing Philosophy, and Ernesto Castro. The primary aim is to discern the predominant thematic and stylistic features of these channels while evaluating their academic rigor. Employing a mixed methodology of multimedia content analysis, the research combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to scrutinize the channels, their creators, and select representative videos. The findings underscore the prevalence of explanatory videos, lectures, and conferences, with a noteworthy association with professional or academic institutions and a commitment to minimal scholarly criteria. Adictos a la Filosofia and Unboxing Philosophy share common elements, including concise and engaging videos, a touch of humor, academic rigor, the simplification of intricate topics, animated resources, meticulous editing, and a focus on pre-university audiences. Ram Talks exhibits consistency across all videos, featuring intricate editing, scripted narration, theoretical rigor, and a strong emphasis on the practical, day-to-day application of classic theoretical knowledge. Ernesto Castro leverages YouTube to extend the reach of his university activities and apply his philosophical approach of transversal analysis. His videos showcase thematic and stylistic diversity, with a prevalence of unedited, intellectually profound recordings of classes-The unedited recording of his classes serves as the quintessential illustration.
